Former Wensum Trust schools trustee arrested

A former trustee of Norfolk multi-academy trust Wensum Trust has been arrested as part of a police investigation into alleged sex offences, Norwich Evening News has reported.

Wensum Trust is responsible for 13 schools across Norfolk.

The former trustee worked in an administrative governance role and had no responsibilities involving children or teaching.

Norwich Evening News understands the investigation and arrest relates to the circulation online of a video showing the man being confronted by a group of so-called paedophile hunters. The video ends after the police arrive and arrest the man.

The Wensum Trust has not revealed the man’s identity and has sent a letter to parents of all its schools with a statement about the arrest.

A spokesman for The Wensum Trust said: "We are aware that one of our trustees has been arrested following allegations that are the subject of an ongoing police investigation.

"As soon as we became aware of the matter, we took immediate action in accordance with our safeguarding and governance procedures. The individual has been removed from all trust roles and responsibilities and has no ongoing involvement with the trust.

"The individual served in an administrative trust governance role and had no child facing or teaching responsibilities.

"The trust is fully cooperating with Norfolk Constabulary and all relevant authorities. Because this is an active investigation, we are unable to comment on the allegations or ongoing police enquiries.

"The safety and wellbeing of every child in our schools is, and always will be, our highest priority. All of our schools operate robust safeguarding procedures, and we continue to work closely with external safeguarding agencies to ensure children remain safe and well supported.

"We appreciate that this news may cause concern within our communities. However, we ask that people allow the legal process to take its course and avoid speculation that could prejudice the ongoing investigation.”
